Permanent injuries
At Wolfe Lawyers we have taken on a number of cases where the client is unsure if their injury is worth a lawsuit, particularly when the initial injury has healed (as with scars) or when the injury is serious — such as amputation — but happened at home and not at work. We will listen to your story, ask about your current situation, and look at your insurance policy. It will cost you nothing to find out whether or not you have a case. Neglecting to make a claim because you assume you don't have one could prove costly.
Know your options
Burns and scalds are extremely painful injuries and often result in long-term repercussions for the victim. They can cause serious damage to nerves, tendons, ligaments and muscles, which can lead to psychological distress, scarring and physical disabilities.
By definition, amputation and scarring cases involve injuries that will no longer heal any more than they already have. This means that we don't only look at the losses you suffered at the time of your injury and during your period of recovery, but the long-term effects on your life. At your free consultation, we will look at:
- Work insurance: Many workplaces have policies that cover death, dismemberment and loss of the use of a body part — even when the injury was not at work.
- Emotional aftereffects: Disfigurement and amputation can result in deep psychological wounds. Depression and PTSD are common.
- Chronic pain: Phantom pain, itching, discomfort and reduced mobility from scarring are quite common.
- Personal circumstances: Appearance may have been an important part of your career or personal life. Age also affects long-term loss.
- Seriousness of the injury: Losing the tip of a finger does not carry the same distress as losing a limb. Scarring on the back differs from scarring across the face.
We represent clients who have suffered from burns, lacerations, scarring or amputation throughout Ontario.
